Local Interest

Cheltenham is one of the best preserved Regency towns in Britain. There is a wealth of beautiful architecture to look at. The Montpellier and Pittville Park areas are particularly recommended.

The composer Gustav Holst was born in the town. His birthplace is open to visitors.

At the Racecourse, the Cheltenham Gold Cup Meeting is held each Spring and other meetings through the year. Nearby, Prescott Hill Climb provides exciting motor sport courtesy of the Bugatti Owners Club.

The preserved Gloucestershire and Worcestershire Railway runs steam trains to Cheltenham Racecourse Station

Cheltenham is home to a number of festivals: including the Science Festival, the Music Festival, the Literature Festival, the Cricket Festival, the Screenwriting Festival, the Food and Drink Festival and the Jazz Festival.

Cheltenham Art Gallery has a good collection of Arts and Crafts Movement pieces. The Cotswold Area was the base for many artists of this school.

Gloucester Cathedral, and the restored Docks are only a few miles away.

The pretty small town of Winchcombe, home of Sudeley Castle is a short drive away. Near Winchcombe is the 4,500 year old Belas Knap Long Barrow. The ruins of Hailes Abbey and Chedworth Roman Villa are also nearby.

Leckhampton Hill is a wonderful nearby viewpoint and excellent area for walks. It gives access to the famous eroded rock stack Devil's Chimney.

The Cotswold Way long distance footpath passes about a three quarters of a mile from the hotel.

The Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is on our doorstep, as are the beautiful, golden stone towns of Stow-on-the Wold, Broadway, Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Camden, Moreton-in-Marsh, Painswick, and smaller romantic villages like Upper and Lower Slaughter, and Bibury.
